Unbeaten and fifth-ranked Chenango Forks will be after a
berth in the Class B final when it hosts Corning East at 2 p.m.
Saturday.
While much has been made of the Blue Devils' defensive
efforts along the path to eight consecutive victories -- and
deservedly so -- the team's 255-point total is surpassed by just
four teams in Section 4, all of those in lower enrollment
classifications.
"They are obviously very quick," East coach Randy
Holden said. "They've got all three phases of their option
working, and they've got to junior quarterbacks who are both a
threat to keep the football-- and that [Roy] Deyo is an
outstanding runner.
"Defensively, [nose Kelsey] Jenks just demands so much
attention from everybody, he makes it easier for the other kids
to make plays. He really disrupts the whole offensive flow, and
they've got some other great kids to complement him."
East (5-3) emerged from a three-way, second-place logjam in
Division III by virtue of Harbin points.
Forks scouts will no doubt be on hand at Binghamton's Alumni
Field at 5 today for the kickoff of the other semi pitting
Oneonta (7-1) against Elmira Notre Dame (6-2). The Yellow
Jackets have averaged 26.6 points per game to Notre Dame's 28.4.

No. 4 seed Corning East travels to play at No. 1
seed Chenango Forks. The two teams didn't meet during the
regular season, but did meet in 2000.
East won that game 13-7 when Matt Dupuis, who's
since graduated, hit Forks quarterback Chad Reynolds at the East
1-yard line. Reynolds fumbled and then-sophomore T.J. Lando
recovered in the end zone with seven seconds remaining, sealing
the Trojans' victory.
"They're the No. 1 seed. They'll want to
find a way to hammer us after last year's experience," East
coach Randy Holden said. "We'll just have to wait and see.
We know we're the underdogs, but the pressure will be on
Forks."
