Regular/"Loose"
Mail Version ~
The lists' normal form is where a subscriber receives each post to the list. This can result in 30 to
60 or more emails a day from the
list.
SPECIAL NOTE TO AOL SUBSCRIBERS:
When on this version of the list, with
potentially 30 to 60 emails a day, if you don't check your email for four days
or more, your email box may fill up and you'll miss out on some posts,
plus all the ones sent to your full box bounce back
to the list administrator and it causes him/her a lot more work.
So please, if you start to fall behind in
your reading and/or
plan to go away for a few days, please consider unsubbing from this version
and subscribing to the digest AND Jewel-news. If you wish to do this
and can't figure it out or have trouble doing it, feel free to email me
at DuckSoup@quackquack.net for assistance,
I'd be glad to help :)
Digest Version
~
The list also comes in a digest version. Each post to the list is
automatically compiled into the current digest. When the digest reaches
at least 20K in size, the server sends out a copy of this digest to all
of the subscribers to this version of the list. Thus, over the course of
a day, a subscriber to this version will receive each and every post sent
to the list. However, instead of the 30 to 60 emails per day, a subscriber
will receive two to four digests per day, dependant upon the days' email
volume. Here's a sample digest to read :-)
News Only Version
~ The list comes
in a NEWS only version. It consists of posts to the regular list that are
deemed to be Jewel news by the current moderator of
the Jewel-News list. There are certain criteria they follow to determine
if a post is to be Jewel-News. As in the other versions, subscribers to
this version can contribute to the regular Jewel mailing list by sending
an email to Jewel@smoe.org. Also, to directly contribute to the NEWS list,
a subscriber to ANY of the three versions can send an email to Jewel-news@smoe.org.
Posts to this address are still evaluated by the moderator of this list,
however by emailing it to Jewel-news@smoe.org, it makes it "stand
out" to the moderator, to make sure he/she doesn't miss the post while
scanning the "loose" mail for Jewel news-worthy posts. By the
way, I highly recommend to ALL subscribers of the Jewel-Digest version
to also subscribe to the Jewel-News version. If you fall behind in your
digest reading, you won't have to miss anything "important" as
the Jewel-news posts will "stand out" and you can read them first.
To subscribe and/or unsubscribe
to one or more of the three versions of the list, you should just send
an email to the respective email Subscription address for that list (see
chart below) and put ONLY the word subscribe or unsubscribe
(depending on the action desired) into
the BODY of the email, NOT the subject. If your email program requires
a subject, you can put anything you want in it. If subscribing, a few minutes
after sending the request email, you will get an email from confirm@smoe.org,
along with an email from majordomo@smoe.org. You will HAVE TO reply
to the one from confirm@smoe.org. Its' SUBJECT will be similar to
one of the following, depending on the list you are going to subscribe
to:
- Confirm subscribe jewel (CCDF955-3808CB5)
- Confirm subscribe jewel-digest (CCDF955-3808CB5)
- Confirm subscribe jewel-news (CCDF955-3808CB5)
The code/key number above (CCDF955-3808CB5)
WILL be different in your case, and it will also appear in the body of
the email from confirm@smoe.org. You HAVE TO reply to that email,
and as long as the subject or body of your reply contains the code/key
number, it will work. A few minutes later you should receive two more emails,
a confirmation and one entitled "Welcome To Jewel", which is
the same one you received when you first subscribed to a Jewel list. (Please
save this "Welcome To Jewel" email and refer to it when necessary,
or visit Adams' Jewel FAQ site)
Again, the email addresses to subscribe and/or
unsubscribe to the three lists, plus the necessary commands, are as follows:
