The latest news from Tammy 07.11.2001:

First off, so far it looks as though the weather is going to hold out for us.
I've been watching it at weather.com and decided to send you all the link in
case you want to keep an eye on it yourselves - especially after Wednesday
morning :-)

Local Weather - Phoenicia, NY (12464)

Second, I called and confirmed us at the Sleepy Hollow Campgrounds (same
place we stayed last year) and all is well :-)  Just a reminder (since I
couldn't remember myself and so it was not put on the page), the cost per
person per night for camping is $9 (she said it went up a $1, but I didn't
even remember what it was last year...)- not as cheap as Steve's was, but
pretty fair, I think :-)

Also remember that the showers are coin operated, so be sure to have a couple
quarters if you plan to use them :-)  As I remember from last year, the water
temp fluctuated horribly at times, so take an extra quarter or two in case
getting it adjusted uses up your first one - lol.  I also seem to remember
that there was electricity in the bathroom (thank God - I have to have my
blow dryer and curling iron :-P  Yes, I'm spoiled rotten and don't plan to
rough it :-P  hehe) .

She said water levels are good and not as low as they were the last two years
(they were low last year too, right?), so tubing should be good :-)

For those of you keeping track, you may have noticed that Gina Brumley and
David Beery were not on the last attendee update - unfortunately, Gina
couldn't find a way there since her hubby had to work and David's company
looks to be going under, and so he's gonna be looking for a job.....

You may also have noticed that there were two new names - Beth Johnson, who
will be coming up with Gerrit, and Chris Schernwetter (Sherm), who should be
arriving Saturday morning  :-) (Not sure if he's an EDA or a friend of
Gerrit's?  Gerrit? :-)

Let me know if there is any other info you guys need that I haven't thought
of :_)

...News from Tammy, and what to bring - 07.09.2001:

Hey fellow EDA campers,

The time is drawing near for Bearsville 2001 at the Sleepy Hollow Campsite in Phoenicia NY...and, we are very fortunate that nearly 40 happy EDA campers plan to attend -- give me a DOUBLE WOOHOO!!.  But now is the time when everybody starts asking, "What should I bring?"  More than anything, bring yourself!  We take care of each other, so don't worry! Nobody starves, gets stranded behind, or does without when EDA's are around.

However, if you want to be prepared, here are some helpful reminders.  First, camping at these events lives the theme "What's yours is mine, what's mine is yours," so be willing to share what you got and always try to bring a little extra if you can, but of course, respect the belongings of others (like I need to point that out to EDA's :-).

The following list will serve as a  MAJOR reminder for all those who might forget the little things to bring.

  • Cash is king -- First, you'll need $5 to $8.75  per night that you plan on staying at the site, and you'll probably need to buy some food/drinks/etc. when you get there or, better yet, bring some food and drink with you!!!  Plan on extra $$$ if you plan on any extracurricular activities or shopping in Woodstock. Also, there will probably be the annual good-bye breakfast at a local eatery.

  •

  • Shower Facilities - coin operated showers are available, quite near the tent campsites.

  •

  • Toilet Paper -- There are toilet facilities at the Showers Facilities building, and there IS often toilet paper supplied, but DO NOT count on it being there. Paper has always been in demand the past few years, so it's best to bring your own supply just in case.

  •

  • Flashlight w/extra batteries -- There are minimal lights at the camp site except what you bring, so plan on having something to light your way.

  •

  • Your pre-made tape for the 5th annual EDA Share-the-music tape grab bag. Just put on artists that you love, especially up and coming acts.

  •

  • A jug or bottles of water -- Water was another "in-demand" item.

  •

  • Snack food -- Most meals are hot dogs, hamburgers and such, which we can always buy when we get up there.  But snack food is something you can buy cheaper at home and bring your favorite.  Plus, everyone gets hungry at different times and lots of snack food keeps everyone happy until meal time.

  •

  • Folding chairs -- Or plan on sitting on the ground -- a lot

  •

  • Sleeping bag, blanket, a warm throw, or something, just anything to keep warm.  If the past four years tell us anything, it is that the Catskills can get down right cold at night, even in late July.  Plan on weather potentially in the 40-50 degree range at night, I'll try to remember to let you all know the weekend forecast for the area the Wednesday before the event.

  •

  • A towel, soap, etc. if you plan on showering. Also, toothpaste and other toiletries you just can't (or don't want to) live without.

For the extra prepared:

  • A tent would be great, but usually there is extra room with other EDAs.  In the past being "tent roomies" has been a great way to get to know other people. Kinda like and EDA version of Big Brother ;-)

  •

  • An air mattress or foam pad -- the ground gets hard after the first night.

  •

  • A cooler -- even empty is fine, we'll fill it soon enough.

  •

  • Good walking shoes/sandals that you don't care a lot about because they'll possibly get ruined. Mine did last year :-/

  •

  • A warm sweater/jacket for around the campfire at night.

Other notes:

  • Parking -- There is somewhat limited space to park in the campground without blocking someone in or occupying prime camp sites. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE think of others before you pull up and block everyone else (EDAs and others) from access to campsites. There IS plenty of open parking in other areas of the campsite close by.

  •

  • Late arrivals --  it WILL be dark, but just find your way to the Tent Site. We are in the same place as last year, and for those new here, see the Directions page on this website..

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to e-mail me.  Rob, the kids and I are heading up Thursday morning the 19th, so don't expect return e-mails after that time.

See ya there!!!!
